Commitment to Training
At Ballston Lake EMS (BLEMS), we know that excellence in emergency medical care begins with a commitment to training. Our community relies on us to respond quickly, skillfully, and compassionately in moments of crisis — and that responsibility drives our focus on continuous learning and professional development.
Every member of BLEMS, from new volunteers to experienced providers, participates in ongoing training and skills development. Regular monthly drills ensure that core EMS skills remain sharp, while scenario-based exercises prepare crews for both common emergencies and complex, high-stress situations.
For new members, BLEMS provides a structured mentorship program. Each Volunteer Trainee is paired with a Field Training Officer (FTO) who guides them through ride-alongs, skills practice, and agency operations. This one-on-one mentorship builds confidence, competence, and professionalism while fostering teamwork across the agency.
We are especially proud of our Volunteer Trainee to Volunteer EMT Program, which offers qualified members the opportunity to attend EMT school sponsored by BLEMS. By investing in education, we not only strengthen our team but also open the door for young people to pursue careers in healthcare, firefighting, law enforcement, or public safety.
Training doesn’t stop once certification is earned. BLEMS encourages all members to pursue continuing education courses, specialty certifications, and advanced skills training. From CPR instruction and Narcan administration to advanced life support techniques, our providers are always expanding their knowledge to better serve the community.
At BLEMS, training is not just a requirement — it is a core value. By prioritizing education and mentorship, we ensure that every provider is prepared, every call is answered with skill, and every patient receives the best possible care.
